Jennifer Arevalo, LCSW-QS
Jennifer is an alumnus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. She received her Masters of Social Work (MSW) from CUNY: Hunter College in 2006 (pretty long ago!) She currently holds her LCSW in both New Jersey and Florida. Jennifer has worked as a school social worker and mental health counselor in schools in New Jersey, Florida, and in Singapore. In addition to experience working in school systems, Jennifer has also provided psychotherapy in the private practice setting. Jennifer is foundationally trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and uses this modality in her work with clients. Jennifer further enhanced her DBT skills by completing the DBT-C training, which was created for children and adolescents struggling with emotional regulation and challenging behaviors. She is also trained in and incorporates Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in her work with clients. These modalities have some overlap, but also are distinctive in the tools and framework used to best support clients.
Jennifer is trained in SPACE which stands for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions. This is a parent focused group that helps parents decrease accommodations that often keep cycles of OCD and anxiety in children going. Jennifer facilitates DBT skills groups for adolescents and the PEERS social skills program.
Cultural competence, acceptance, openness, and inclusivity are hallmarks of Jennifer's work and life values.
